Information and Competitive Advantages
Hello
everyone, now I will discuss and shared information with you about
the topic ‘Information and Competitive Advantages’. As we know,
‘Information and Competitive Advantages’ topic is the important
element in the Human Resources Information System subject. Based on
Dr. Roya Anvari lecture ( 20 September 2012 ), for this topic we must
identify basic competitive strategies and explain how a business can
use IT to confront the competitive forces it faces.
What
have I learnt from this topic is competitive advantages is a
superiority gained by an organization when it can provide the same
value as its competitors but at a lower price, or can charge higher
prices by providing greater value through differentiation ( business
dictionary, 2011 ). From this topic also, we know about the roles of
information technology is can substantially increase process
efficiencies and improves communication. According to Ramayah ( 2011
) in their article “Essentials
of Management Information Systems” described
about Porter’s competitive forces model such as traditional
competitors, new market entrants, substitute products and services,
customers and suppliers.
From
the model, we know that Porter’s competitive forces model, the
strategic position of the firm and its strategies are determined not
only by competition with its traditional direct competitors but also
by four forces in the industry environment: new markets entrants,
substitute products, customers and suppliers ( Ramayah, 2011 ). What
have I learnt from this topic is cost leadership also might involve
the coat that has to be faced by an organization to produce their
product and to manage the resources. According to Khairuddin ( 2012 )
in their article ‘Information
and Competitive Advantage’ a
well planned with Human Resources Information System will achieve the
advantages of low cost, and it can become the core advantage of the
organization.
From
this reflection, the important things I took away from this topic a
give me understanding about the role of information technology.
Besides that, I can identify several strategies uses of information
technology. In addition, I am also can analyze and describes about by
using this information system for gaining competitive advantage. In a
conclusion, we can use this topic ‘Information and Competitive
Advantages’ as a knowledge and information in the future. In a
overall, this topic has given me a new perspective and opinion to
further understand the next topic in class Human Resources
Information System.
